Come and explore.

Male encourages low-impact tourism as part of a much wider northern Kenya landscape — a place to walk, camp, explore and spend time in the bush.

A bigger landscape.

A bigger landscape.

Male is part of a wider landscape of neighbouring ranches and conservancies. Visitors can experience them together: more country for walking, wildlife, riding, camping and exploration.

North Kenya Field School offers a simple, affordable tented base within Male. It is the main starting point for staying close to the landscape and spending time in the bush.

Accommodation is also available at neighbouring properties, including Tumaren Camp and Rocky Hollow as well as camping options on the conservancy.

Camp out.

Camp out.

Camping at Male is encouraged. Simple camps, nights under canvas and time outdoors — access to the landscape, rather than conventional lodge tourism.

With space to spread out, camping offers one of the best ways to experience Male: choose a quiet part of the landscape, establish a simple bush camp and spend a few days walking and exploring from there.

Camps can remain deliberately light-touch, leaving little behind when they move on. It is also a way of experiencing Male beyond a conventional game drive — evenings around a fire, mornings on foot and the freedom to spend meaningful time in one part of the landscape. The luxury is the space, not the infrastructure.

Explore safely.

Explore safely.

Male is a landscape best experienced on foot. Walking allows visitors to slow down and understand the smaller details of the conservancy — tracks, plants, geology, cattle, wildlife and the changing condition of the rangeland. Wherever appropriate, walks can be accompanied by Male's rangers, who know the landscape and its wildlife intimately.

Male maintains a ranger presence to support wildlife protection, conservation management and the safety of people using the conservancy. Rangers are part of the everyday life of Male: patrolling the landscape, monitoring wildlife, supporting visitors and helping us understand what is happening across the land.

The ranger team allows us to encourage a more adventurous kind of tourism. Rather than restricting visitors to vehicles and conventional safari infrastructure, we want people to be able to walk, camp and explore Male responsibly. Security and sensible protocols sit quietly behind that freedom — allowing the experience to remain informal, wild and connected to the landscape.
